The vacancy
MTC are now recruiting Detention Custody Officers (DCOs) to join our fantastic (and growing!) team, providing detention and escorting services for the Home Office in Manston, Kent. Our ideal candidate will need to be empathetic, open-minded, have the ability to deal with challenging situations & demonstrate our core values of being Caring, Transparent, Collaborative and Accountable.
Within the role you will be working in an environment that provides an empathetic, caring, trauma-informed security and escorting service for asylum seekers who have only recently arrived in the UK. You will be responsible for the welfare and safety of the individuals whilst they are going through the Home Office immigration processes.
Here’s what you need to know about the role:
Direct experience of working as a DCO is not necessary; we are looking for individuals who are passionate about the same goals and values we hold as an organisation...to join our mission of empowering people to make positive life choices and help to transform lives.
Full training will be provided, so all we ask is that applicants have a supportive, empathetic, reassuring approach to working with vulnerable individuals. People who are kind, compassionate, adaptable to changing needs and priorities and have great communication skills.
If you are successful in the recruitment process, your role will also involve completing a 4/5-week initial training course which includes de-escalation and Control & Restraint training. You would need to be prepared to physically restrain someone in detention, if there is an immediate threat.
These roles are permanent, full-time positions. The site operates 24/7, so contracts are based on an average working week of 40 hours on a rolling shift pattern - including days, nights and some weekends.
In return for your hard work and dedication, we offer a salary of £29,187.85 per annum, along with a great range of benefits which includes (but are not limited to):
Company pension
Cycle to work Scheme
Life Assurance
Enhanced annual leave scheme
Wellbeing day
Enhanced Maternity & Paternity
